Competitor analysis software
Best competitor analysis tools for 2026
In the recommendation moment your real competitor is whoever AI names instead of you. This guide sorts the tools by the job, and covers which run competitor intelligence on the answers themselves rather than on a list you supply, with claims taken from each vendor's own pages on a stated date.

The short answer
Which tool should you choose?
Competitor analysis is not one job. At least six kinds of product answer to the name, and they measure different things: which pages and keywords rivals win in search, how big a rival is and where its traffic comes from, whether your content covers what theirs covers, enterprise governance across many markets, how often AI assistants mention a brand, and whether those assistants recommend one business to its buyers. Choose the category first and the tool second, and the shortlist gets shorter, cheaper and easier to judge.
For search overlap, Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz Pro and SE Ranking are built for that work. For traffic and market context across a category, Similarweb. For content and coverage against rivals, Surfer SEO and Writesonic. For one enterprise contract across search and AI, Conductor and BrightEdge. For watching which brands AI answers name in your category, Profound, Peec AI, Scrunch AI, Otterly AI, AthenaHQ, Goodie AI, AnswerRank and AIclicks. For whether the assistants recommend your business when a buyer asks, and who they name instead, that is what GetRanked AI reports.
One thing to be clear about before you read further: this guide is published by GetRanked AI and GetRanked AI is one of the tools discussed below. We own this site. Everything stated about another company comes from that company's own pages, read on the date shown at the top, and nothing on this page is ranked with a score we invented.

Measure the outcome before you choose a tool
Competitor analysis tools have been built for the search era: keyword overlap, backlink gaps, traffic estimates and share of voice. That work remains valuable and the platforms here are good at it.
In the recommendation moment your real competitor is different. It is whoever the assistant names instead of you, and it is frequently a business you were not tracking, sometimes one you have never heard of.
That list cannot be assembled from a keyword tool, because it comes out of the answers themselves. GetRanked AI surfaces it from the measurement, which is why it is worth running before you configure a competitor set anywhere else. Where GetRanked AI differs is the competitor intelligence: the GetRanked Algo names the businesses the assistants recommended in your place through Competitor Capture, builds a dossier on each with Competitor Radar, and prints the reason and sources with Decision Trace, all from the answers themselves rather than a list you supply. Staying ahead is the ongoing half: tracked competitors are re-read on the ongoing plans and Recommendation Delta measures which answers you gained and lost between two comparable readings, so you can see whether the gap to the businesses AI names is widening or closing. Those plans are listed on the pricing page and are not open for self-serve purchase yet.
The category
The categories that all get called competitor analysis
A buyer usually arrives with one question, such as "who is beating us and why". Vendors answer that question from six different starting points, which is why two products with similar marketing can produce completely different work. Naming the categories makes the choice tractable.
SEO competitor research starts from the search results: which keywords and pages a rival ranks for, what links point at them, where the gaps are. Traffic and digital market intelligence starts from the market: estimated visits, channels, apps and category share. Content and coverage analysis starts from your pages: what a topic needs to cover, and what a rival covers that you do not. Enterprise search and AEO platforms start from governance: many sites, many markets, one contract and one set of integrations.
AI visibility and mention tracking starts from a prompt set: how often each brand appears in AI answers to the questions a team chose to track, and who is cited. AI Recommendation Intelligence, which is our term rather than an industry standard, starts from one business and asks a narrower question: when a prospective customer asks an assistant for a business like yours, does it name you, who does it name instead, and what evidence was missing.
None of these categories is a substitute for another. A rank tracker will not tell you why an assistant named a rival, and an AI answer tracker will not tell you which backlinks a rival earned. Most teams end up with one tool from one category and, if the budget allows, a second from another.
- Competitor analysis
- Any structured comparison of your business against named rivals, from search rankings and traffic to what AI assistants say about each of you.
- Share of voice
- A brand's share of mentions, usually across a tracked prompt set or a keyword set, compared with the competitors chosen for the comparison.
- Competitor Capture
- GetRanked AI's term for the businesses an assistant recommends instead of you, discovered from the answers rather than named in advance.
- AI Recommendation Intelligence
- Our term for measuring whether AI assistants recommend a specific business to its prospective customers, who they recommend instead, and what evidence was missing.
How we evaluated
What we looked at, and what we did not
We read each vendor's own website on the date shown and recorded what it advertises: what the product is built to do, how it handles competitors, which AI platforms it names, who it says it is for, and whether prices are published. We publish this guide and we own this site, so GetRanked AI is listed here among the tools discussed and is placed in its own category rather than above anyone else's. We did not run paid trials of every product and we do not award scores. Where a vendor's pages do not mention something, the table says "not publicly advertised", which is not a claim that the capability is missing.
Because the argument of this page is that the categories differ, the shortlist gives one tool per category rather than a running order. Every row links to a comparison page carrying that vendor's sources so you can check us.
- Principal purposeWhat the product is built to do, in its own terms.
- Recommendation outcomeWhether it tells a business that AI recommends it, rather than counting mentions.
- Starts from your businessWhether you can begin with your website instead of building a prompt project.
- Recommendation GapWhether it shows the buying questions where a business could be named and is not.
- Competitor CaptureWhether it names the businesses the assistants recommend instead.
- Competitor discoveryWhether competitors surface from the answers, or must be known and added first.
- Evidence CoverageWhether it shows which sources shaped the answer and what was missing.
- What to do firstWhether it produces a prioritised list of things to change.
- Plain-English verdictWhether the output is a decision a business owner can act on, not only analytics.
- Try before committingWhether a business can learn something real before paying for a subscription.
- Traditional SEO suiteKeyword research, rank tracking, site audits, backlinks.
- Keyword researchA keyword database and research workflow.
- Backlink databaseA link index and link analysis.
- Content productionWriting, briefs and on-page optimisation.
- Technical auditingCrawling and technical site health.
- Multi-client dashboardsManaging many sites or clients in one place.
- Enterprise integrationsAPIs, warehouses and BI connectors.
- Prompt managementBuilding and maintaining a tracked prompt set at scale.
- Intended customerWho the vendor says the product is for.
- Public pricingWhether prices are published, so a buyer can size a plan before a sales call.

GetRanked AI
GetRanked AI sits in its own category, AI Recommendation Intelligence, which is our term for measuring whether leading AI assistants recommend one business when prospective customers are looking for one. Enter a website and it reports an AI Trust Score, the Recommendation Gap, Competitor Capture and Evidence Coverage, with a prioritised plain-English list of fixes. The assistants named on our pricing page are ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI.
Fits: Owners and marketing leads who want to know which businesses are being named in their category and why, without curating a prompt set or naming rivals in advance.
Worth knowing: It is not an SEO suite and it is not a market data platform: no keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks or traffic estimates. The monthly plans are listed on the pricing page but are not yet open for self-serve purchase, so what you can buy today is the free scan and the one-off report.
Semrush
Semrush bundles keyword research, backlinks, rank tracking and site audits with an AI Visibility toolkit that tracks brand mentions across AI answers. For competitor work it shows which brands AI recommends in a category, with the brands to benchmark chosen by the user, and it reports sentiment and the media sources the answers cite.
Fits: SEO teams, agencies and marketers who want search competitor research and AI visibility benchmarking in one subscription, with prompt caps, website counts and keyword limits printed on every plan card.
Worth knowing: The competitor set is one you select, so the comparison covers the rivals you already had in mind.
Ahrefs pairs keyword tracking, projects and its own web index with Brand Radar, which measures mentions, citations and AI Share of Voice across AI answers. Brand Radar benchmarks a brand against competitors in AI search and spots the big players, while Custom Prompts let a team add the exact questions its buyers ask.
Fits: SEO professionals, in-house marketing teams and agencies who want search and AI visibility data for the same set of rivals in one subscription.
Worth knowing: Prices were shown in pounds to a UK visitor while other pages showed other currencies, and Brand Radar AI is an add-on with its own price.
Similarweb
Similarweb covers website, app and e-commerce data, competitive intelligence and SEO, with an AI Search Intelligence product that tracks brand visibility, prompts, citations and AI chatbot traffic. Similarweb states it shows the top 30 brands for each topic you track, so a category view arrives as standard, and its prompt data is described as normalised and aggregated from real AI searches.
Fits: Marketing, research and strategy teams who want traffic, market and AI visibility data in one place rather than a per-page SEO view.
Worth knowing: Plan-by-plan pricing was not publicly listed on the pages read: the pricing page redirects to a packages page offering talk-to-sales and a free trial with no amounts stated.
Surfer SEO
Surfer pairs its Content Editor, Content Audit and Topical Map with an AI Tracker, and describes the whole as one closed-loop workflow for rankings and AI visibility. Competitor benchmarking shows which models skip your brand in a rival's favour, with the competitor brands entered by the user, and the tracker reports sentiment, mention gaps, competitor share of voice and the sources the models pull from.
Fits: Content teams, marketers and agencies who publish at volume and want coverage against named rivals tracked beside the writing.
Worth knowing: Rank tracking and site audit tools are not named on the pages checked, and each tier prints its own prompt allowance and refresh cadence.
Conductor
Conductor combines AI and search visibility analytics, content creation, website monitoring and an AgentStack of APIs, agents and an MCP server in one platform built for enterprise teams. It compares market share in AI and traditional search against the competitors configured on each tier, and its pricing page prints per-tier allowances for tracked competitors, keywords, pages and websites.
Fits: Enterprise content, SEO and IT teams, and the agencies and MarTech partners that work with them, where governance and integrations matter more than a low entry price.
Worth knowing: Pricing is by enquiry, no numeric price is shown for any tier, and what one AI Search Credit buys is not defined on the pricing page.
Peec AI
Peec AI tracks visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice for a prompt set a team defines, across several models and countries. Share of voice and gap analysis are measured against the competitors you name, and its source analytics report which URLs and domains AI engines access and cite, classify each source as competitor, editorial, reference or UGC, and rank the ones where competitors are cited but the brand is not.
Fits: SEO and marketing teams, and agencies with client workspaces, that want competitor-benchmarked AI visibility analytics with exports into their own reporting.
Worth knowing: Plans were displayed in euros, and per-plan country, language and competitor limits could not be read reliably.
Otterly AI
Otterly AI tracks brand mentions, share of voice, rank, sentiment and cited URLs for the prompts you choose, then audits your pages and queues recommendations per engine. Citation tracking records every cited URL, whether it names you and which rival it names instead, and gap analysis surfaces the prompts where competitors get named and you do not.
Fits: Smaller marketing teams, agencies and content strategists who want tracking with technical audits and open data access through an API and MCP server.
Worth knowing: Enterprise pricing is a starting figure with a custom quote, and per-engine add-on prices were only captured as a range.
The buying question
Which of these is built around the recommendation outcome?
Read from each vendor's own pages on the date shown on its comparison page. "Not publicly advertised" means the pages we read do not mention it, not that the capability is absent.

Broader platform capabilities
Broader does not mean better for every job. Several of these platforms are far wider than GetRanked AI, and where they are, this table says so plainly. GetRanked AI deliberately does not recreate an SEO suite: it specialises in the measurement above.

Which fits which buyer
Match the tool to the situation
An owner who wants to know who is recommended instead of them
Run the free scan, then the one-off report if the answer matters. Competitor Capture names the businesses the assistants recommend instead of you, and Evidence Coverage shows what they could and could not find about you, so the fix list is about the evidence behind the answer rather than a keyword.
An SEO team benchmarking organic rivals
All three combine keyword research, rank tracking and audits with AI answer tracking against a competitor set you choose, and all three publish per-plan limits so you can size a plan before trialling it.
That is the search-era competitor set. The businesses assistants name instead of you may be different ones, and the free scan surfaces them.
A strategy or research team sizing a market
Similarweb reports website, app and e-commerce data alongside AI search, and states it shows the top 30 brands for each topic you track, so the category view arrives without you naming every rival first. Its prompt data is described as aggregated from real AI searches, which suits market sizing more than page-level SEO work.
Market data describes the category. Whether an assistant names you inside it is a separate reading, and it is free.
A content team checking coverage against rivals
Both put competitor coverage next to the writing. Surfer runs the editor, audit and topical map in one loop with an AI Tracker, and Writesonic moves from tracking to AI articles, citation outreach and technical audits with an Action Center.
That covers the content. Run the free scan to see which buying questions the content would actually need to win.
A marketing team watching who AI names in the category
These are analytics platforms for a tracked prompt set: presence across engines, regions and personas, source and citation analytics, and exports. Pair one with a GetRanked AI report when you want to know why an answer named a rival for your own business.
Those track a set you configure. GetRanked AI finds the rivals from the answers themselves, including the ones you were not tracking.
An enterprise that wants one platform and one contract
Governance, integrations and procurement matter more than an entry price here. Both fold AI search into a wider enterprise platform, both compare selected competitors, and both are priced through a sales conversation rather than on a page.
Enterprise reporting answers programme questions. For a fast, business-specific reading on who is being named instead of you, the scan is free.
Where GetRanked AI differs
Built for the moment a customer asks AI
AI Recommendation Intelligence is our term for measuring whether the assistants recommend one business when its customers are looking for one.
A category of one, and we say so
AI Recommendation Intelligence is our term, not an industry standard. We name it because the job is narrower than AI visibility tracking: not how often a brand appears across a prompt set, but whether an assistant recommends this business to the people choosing one.
Rivals are discovered, not configured
You do not name competitors in advance. Competitor Capture reports the businesses the assistants recommend instead of you, which is often not the list a team would have typed in.
Evidence Coverage explains why a rival won
The report shows what the assistants could and could not find about your business, so the fixes are about the evidence behind the answer rather than a ranking position.
Start free, buy once
A free scan and a one-off Professional AI Report for one website. The monthly plans are listed on the pricing page but are not yet open for self-serve purchase.
Questions
Questions buyers ask about this category
What is competitor analysis software?
It is any tool that compares your business against named rivals in a structured way. In practice the label covers at least six different products: SEO competitor research, traffic and digital market intelligence, content and coverage analysis, enterprise search and AEO platforms, AI visibility and mention tracking, and AI recommendation intelligence. They start from different data, so the first decision is which of those jobs you actually have.
Which category should I choose first?
Start from the question you need answered. If it is which keywords and pages a rival wins, that is SEO competitor research. If it is how big a rival is and where its visitors come from, that is traffic and market intelligence. If it is whether your pages cover what theirs cover, that is content and coverage analysis. If it is whether an assistant names you or a rival when a buyer asks for a recommendation, that is AI visibility tracking, or AI recommendation intelligence when you want the recommendation moment for one business.
Is AI visibility tracking the same as competitor analysis?
No, it is one slice of it. AI visibility tracking counts how often brands appear in answers to a prompt set a team chose, and compares those counts across the competitors that team named. Classic competitor analysis works from search results, links and traffic instead. The two answer different questions and most teams eventually want both.
How did you evaluate the tools?
We read each vendor's own website on the date at the top of this guide and recorded what it advertises against the buyer-relevant criteria in the table, including how it handles competitors and whether prices are published. We did not award scores and we did not run paid trials of every product. Where a vendor's page does not mention something, the table says not publicly advertised rather than treating silence as evidence.
Why does GetRanked AI appear in a guide GetRanked AI published?
Because we own this site and you should know that before you read the shortlist. GetRanked AI is included in its own category, AI recommendation intelligence, described by the same method used for every other tool, and never placed above another vendor. Every row links to a comparison page carrying the sources so you can check the claims yourself.
Can any of these tools guarantee AI will recommend my business instead of a rival?
No. Nobody can guarantee what a model will say. Every product on this page measures and reports; earning the recommendation is still work you do on your own evidence, pages and reputation.
What can I buy from GetRanked AI today?
A free scan and the one-off Professional AI Report for one website, both priced on the pricing page. The monthly plans are listed on the pricing page but are not yet open for self-serve purchase. GetRanked AI reports on one business per scan, so agencies buy a report per client website.
How current is this guide?
The vendor pages were read on the date shown at the top of this page. Plans, features and prices change often in this market, so confirm on the vendor's own site before you buy.

Sources and trust
Every third-party claim on this page comes from the vendor's own website, read on the date shown, and is repeated with its sources on the linked comparison page. No vendor paid for a place here and no vendor has been scored or ranked. GetRanked AI's own method is described on the methodology page.
Vendor sources for every product on this page are listed on its comparison page: Semrush, Ahrefs, Similarweb, Surfer SEO, Conductor, Peec AI, Otterly AI.
What this guide deliberately leaves out
- Any ranking or overall winner across the categories: the products start from different data and we did not test them under one protocol.
- Prices and plan figures: the table records only whether prices are published, and the linked comparison pages carry the detail on the date it was read.
- Customer counts, ratings, awards and performance claims printed on vendor sites, none of which we can verify.
- Per-plan competitor and market limits for most vendors: several pages state them inconsistently or place them behind a sales conversation.
- Moz Pro, SE Ranking, BrightEdge, Writesonic, Profound, Scrunch AI, AthenaHQ, Goodie AI, AnswerRank and AIclicks detail beyond the table and the buyer sections: each is covered on its own comparison page so this guide stays about the categories rather than becoming a directory.
